it is a groundbreaking moment in the national football league. for the first time, an active player has come out as gay. i remember where i was when carl nassib came out. i was at barney’s beanery in la. my phone started blowing up, and i turned to my friend and said, ‘this is going to change everything.’ times are changing, and the nfl was to follow suit.

carl, a private person, was not interested in being a part of the piece himself. the challenge of this piece was to find the right voices to tell not only carl’s story, but thousands of people’s stories who were impacted by Carl’s brave decision to come out. a massive thank you to casey pick, avery cluff, ryan o’callaghan, jake streder and sam rapoport for sharing their stories with us.
