lions and tigers, not so much. bears? you bet. hailing mostly from big coastal cities, this crew was out of sorts when they were told to carry bear spray around the 520-acre ranch in montana we would be filming on.
getting an 80 person crew comfortable right smack in the middle of montana, 30 minutes to the nearest restaurant and 2 and a half hours from the nearest walmart, was no easy feat. that’s where i come in. in order to film a show about cowboys and their lifestyle, we had to somewhat submerge ourselves in that lifestyle… while still having the creature comforts of a tv set.
organizing transportation and meals is no easy feat so far out in the country. shifting schedules around a horse’s health, crew getting sick without any local hires to replace them, broken down tractors and flat tires seemingly daily… we were dealing with production pivots i could have never dreamed of. with an army of 12 production assistants working with me, 16 production vehicles in our arsenal and a whole lotta chutzpah, we pulled it off. transforming a tv crew into cowboys and cowgirls for 2+ months was a blast.
