women had the bible on their night table, and essence. and if they’re on set with me, they have everything requested on their rider, and then some. with dozens of interviews conducted throughout the country, the set and style of the interviews for this series needed to be able to be replicated in various locations. my job on this set was to ensure everyone had the space and tools they needed to get their jobs done. talent needed space for glam and a comfortable greenroom, camera needed accessible parking, and of course, video village. whether it be a boutique studio in studio city, someone’s house or a rent-a-mansion, myself and a fabulous team of production assistants always got the job done.

oprah. halle. whoopi. these women need no last names to ring legendary status in our brains. they all have had their ties to essence, and give thanks to the magazine for its place in history and culture. essence magazine is a national treasure, celebrating black excellence and black beauty. with dozens of interviews with legends and icons in the black community, this series tells the story of essence and its impact on pop culture.
